What is the ECO4 Scheme?
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a UK government scheme designed to reduce fuel poverty and lower carbon emissions. It offers funding for energy-saving upgrades like insulation, boiler replacements, and renewable energy solutions.
To benefit from ECO, your property must need energy efficiency improvements. Use our energy performance checker to see if your property qualifies. You must either own the property or have landlord permission, including for social housing.
ECO4 is aimed at low-income and vulnerable households, and there are three ways to qualify. You'll qualify if you receive any of the benefits listed, or if your total household income is under £31,000 a year — savings don't count. You'll also qualify if someone in the home has a long-term or serious medical condition that's made worse by the cold.
Do I qualify for ECO4 funding?
If you don't receive any of the benefits listed above, you can also qualify for funding through your local authority. This is known as Local Authority Flex (LA Flex). Councils choose to opt into LA Flex.
How do I qualify for LA Flex?
This is the total annual income for the household for every person over the age of 18. Savings or bonds do not count towards total income.
